CTC Marine Projects link up to Tall Ships

INWARD INVESTMENT

Tuesday 3rd August

A GLOBAL specialist subsea company is the latest business to join the wave of sponsors backing The Tall Ships Races - Hartlepool 2010.

CTC Marine Projects, which is headquartered in Darlington, operates some of the world’s largest, most technically advanced marine installation and trenching vehicles, serving the international offshore construction industry.

The event, one of the biggest maritime festivals in the world, gets under way on Saturday.

Daryl Lynch, managing director of CTC Marine Projects, said: “We work in the marine sector so are delighted to be teaming up with The Tall Ships Races.

“This is a fantastic event for local people and businesses as well as being a great opportunity to really put Hartlepool and the surrounding area on the map.”

CTC Marine recently clinched a $40m (£26m) contract on a major development in Korea.

It will carry out cable lay and ploughing activity on the Jeju Island Project.

The work will involve the installation of two 105-kilometre cable bundles between Jeju Island and Jindo Mainland Korea in water depths of up to 160 metres.

CTC has already started work on the first phase, with the second phase due to begin next year.

The deal follows a string of other wins for the company, including a £7m contract on the high profile Wave Hub pilot project off the coast of Cornwall.

Hartlepool will welcome around 70 vessels and up to one million visitors when it hosts the Tall Ships event later this week.

Hartlepool Council has teamed up with PD Ports and Hartlepool Marina to organise the four-day jamboree which runs from August 7-10.

Hartlepool beat off competition from Leith, Aberdeen and Newcastle to become the only UK and final host port for 2010.

It’s hoped the Tall Ships Races will pump £16m into the Hartlepool economy. The wider region could benefit by more than £50m as visitors spend their cash on food, gifts and entertainment.

Other sponsors of the event include Hartlepool-based Yuill Homes, Hartlepool Water, JDR Cables, The Federation of Small Businesses and Imtech Marine and Offshore.
