Monday 13th September

TYNESIDE construction giant McNulty has awarded a £2.3m contract to fellow North East firm Mech-Tool Engineering for work in the renewable energy sector.

The Darlington firm will supply pre-assembled buildings and other components for a new substation platform within Centrica’s LincsOffshore Wind Farm Project, located five miles off the coast of Skegness, Lincolnshire.

The substation will house control and electrical equipment supplied by turbine manufacturer Siemens that will bundle the power generated bywind turbines before it is transported via high-voltage cable to the mainland.

The order is the fourth awarded to Mech-Tool in two years by Tyneside-based McNulty Offshore Construction Ltd spanning two renewables projects and worth a total of £3.6m to the Darlington company.

David Walker, business manager for Mech-Tool’s modular division, said: “With a rapid programme of work, it was clear that a plug-and-play approach to the project will prove vital, with the buildings designed and built simultaneously to therest of the substation platform, and supplied in some cases fully assembled and tested, ready for installation, providing significant time and cost savings upstream.”
