Nissan Juke Production Underway On Wearside
Low Carbon Vehicles
Monday 13th September
NISSAN has kick started the production of the new Juke SUV at its Sunderland base – having secured more than 25,000 initial orders throughout Europe.
Nissan Juke is set to hit markets across the continent this month and up to 100,000 units each year are expected to be produced at the Sunderland facility - the factory’s second highest volume output behind the compact crossover SUV Qashqai.
Juke is part of a £57 million investment in the Wearside facility by the Japanese car manufacturer, and a £6.2 million grant for business investment from the UK Government.
More than 1,000 jobs have been safeguarded due to the move and it is estimated that around 2,000 additional jobs have been created across Nissan’s supply base.
Juke customers will have a choice between three trim grades and three engines, as well as between two-wheel and all-wheel drive models.
The Sunderland Plant’s current model line-up includes the Juke, the compact family car Note and Qashqai +2, leading to an expected record production turnout of more than 400,000 units for the 2010 financial year.
